Program Overview

The Master of Science in Economics is a standard two-year Master program (120 ECTS), completely taught in English. Mandatory and fundamental teaching activities take place in the first year of the Master course; in the second year, teaching activities are mostly elective and a student can tailor a personal specialization track toward the final Master Dissertation by selecting from a wide range of advanced topics covering both economic analysis and quantitative methods.

The Master of Science in Economics offers three curricula:

• Quantitative Finance Official Statistics has been recently awarded by the European Commission with the label EMOS (European Master in Official Statistics).

Curriculum Structure

The full descriptions of the plan of studies for each curriculum can be found in the program's study guide. Some important qualifications are in order for the curriculum OS. The curriculum is crucially based on an internship in the first year and a final dissertation in the second year jointly organised with ISTAT (the Italian national statistical authority). The program has an organic agreement with ISTAT which includes a limited number of positions (about 12 in a.y. 2023/2024) for the internship. The selection among the interested students will happen just after around November of the first year. Students should be aware that curriculum OS cannot be taken without an internship and a final dissertation organised with an European national statistical authorities, and that only the positions at ISTAT are available so far.

Academic Calendar

The program follows a standard academic calendar with two terms of lectures and examinations. The first term lectures take place from September to December, and the second term lectures take place from February to May. The examinations are held in November and February for the first term, and in March and April for the second term.
